ENGINEERED WOOD FLOOR SYSTEM DESIGN TECHNICIAN

Full-Time Position
Department: Engineered Wood Products
Location: Burnaby

We are looking for a professional, detail oriented, problem solver to join our team as an Engineered Wood Products Designer servicing our Burnaby and North Vancouver branches.

This is a full-time position working primarily from our Burnaby location and close to transit.

Principal Responsibilities:
  • Design packages for all engineered wood applications ranging from single family residences to multi-family developments.
  • Provide technical assistance to customers and sales staff with regards to engineered wood products and connectors.
  • Troubleshoot structural issues as it pertains to engineered wood products and provide solutions.
  • Work closely with framers, project managers & engineers on large multifamily projects to identify & address issues at the design stage, facilitate smooth supply of materials, and react to & accommodate changing demands, timelines & site conditions.
  • Assist contractors in the design & supply of custom homes & renovations with a focus on quality for the end-user. Provide input to optimize installation, accommodate trade runs and other custom home amenities, & improve living space performance wherever possible.
  • Provide detailed framing take-offs to our sales team for quoting & budgeting purposes.
  • Make site visits when required to deal with on-site issues.
  • Provide a high level of customer service
Ideal Profile:
  • Must be able to read and interpret structural and architectural plans.
  • Strong knowledge of the building code and wood frame construction.
  • Direct wood-frame experience is an asset.
  • Experience with takeoff software is an asset.
  • Experience with Javelin or other I-joist design software is a major asset.
  • Strong time-management skills & effective prioritization.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written) with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience using Javelin is a strong asset but not a requirement. On site job training will be provided.
  • A diploma from a two (2) year technical program from BCIT or equivalent is an asset.
